Mmm Cookies

Graham has really become quite the cook. If you want to mix up a batch of Crystal Light, he's your guy... got some cookies in the oven, he's got your back.

Here he models an apron that was sewn by yours truly. Yup, it was my first 4-H sewing project in 1981. This fashionable and practical apron features a drawstring waist and the world's teeny tiniest pocket fashioned in a lovely Cat and Strawberry print. Truly a classic!

Here our young baker runs to the kitchen to check on a batch of cookies:

Holiday Train

We had unusually warm weather as The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train made its annual pass thru Oneonta.

Grandma and Grandpa Paul, as well as June and Don Carter joined us for some Christmas boxcar rock and roll!

Then we went back to our place to wave to Santa as the train passed behind our house.

we shared some excellent chili, and toasted our friends and loved ones,

The hot cocoa was also a big hit....

And Kate and Rene stopped by, and the boys had a quick musical jam session of their own...

as well as some general fun and games.

Good Times!

Christmas preparations

The Christmas tree is up!

I wrangled the tree
while Mommy and Graham made ornaments.

Here's a short video of our tree in action. I've oiled our fancy retro base so it doesn't squeal anymore, but it still seems to cause a commotion with the rest of the house. 'Tis the season!

Greased Lightning

Winnie and Graham in a scene from Grease. Girls love a bad boy behind the wheel!

Main St. Santa

Graham met Santa on Main St. the other day and he learned a very important lesson.
Santa has candy! Here a tiny candy cane has earned Santa a hug, and given a nice first impression of the big guy. I can't wait to see his reaction when he figures out presents are also part of the package!

Thanksgiving 2009

Thanksgiving morning was spent watching the Macy's parade, and having a light breakfast of Apple Jacks. The parade was a big hit, especially when the Yo Gabba Gabba float and song/dance routine was on. He was a bit upset when I couldn't rewind it.
Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa Paul showed up with Scout for some fun and games.

Grandpa tuckered out a lot sooner than Graham did! (I had to work that night so I was also fast asleep by this point.) Thanks Grandma!

Baking with June & Jaci

Graham, Jaci and June made cookies!

As you can see, it's very serious work-

and it requires a sharp eye to supervise-

but the most important job is quality control in the frosting department!

Matthew McConaughey Tribute

Symphony for Bongo and Harmonica in B Minor

Grandpa's goat

Grandpa Paul got 2 new goats! We popped over to check them out, as well as to see how the rest of the animals were doing.

It's fun at the farm!

Our friend Anna likes to bring interesting toys to keep Graham on his toes.

He seems afraid this one is going to bop him in the nose!

Masked painter

As mentioned earlier, Graham continues to hone his artistic skills. Unfortunately he can become quite reckless with his frantic broad strokes, and I was afraid he would poke out an eye before it was all said and done. Luckily I was there to provide some protection-

Safety first!
If Van Gogh had a father who cared as much as I do, he never would have lost his ear. ;)

Great Aunt Gail

Graham enjoyed playing with Grandpa Paul's sister, Great Aunt Gail. It may have a been a while since she had match box cars all over her living room, but she eased right back into the car and train games like a pro :).

Don't try this at home, kids.

We've tried almost every craft known to humankind (thanks Mom!) but nothing posed the same challenges as making our own shoes. Elf shoes. Yeah, we made elf shoes.

There was a reason the kits were on clearance.

They ran small so now Amanda has mine and I have none. Too bad.

We attended the Oneonta World of Learning's 2nd annual Paintfest, where we met up with some play date friends to discover the fun of making a mess. (a.k.a. "Art")

Graham tried his skills at painting cookies with colored frosting gels. You can see by his expression how they tasted. (I should know, he fed me about 3 of the nasty things,)

Tucker, Graham and Winnie learn that graffiti is also a form of art. Good thing they gave away t-shirts, you can tell by the floor how messy this all was.
Below Graham and Winnie paint with marbles.

The event was a great eye opener for Graham who continues to enjoy practicing his artistic skills at home with a paint set of his own. (Thanks Aunt Lorraine!)
Keep an eye out for some upcoming posts of his work.

Make Believe

Graham is just more and more fun. In a single day he can run an ice cream shop, be a loving kitty cat and then a scary monster all in the course of just an hour. Luckily he's getting better with props so his personas are becoming easier to separate. Here he terrorizes the living room with his monster slippers (a birthday gift from Sharyn):

Add an adorable hobby horse (made by our dear friend Judy) and you have a monster/knight ready to protect the kingdom.

Old Friends

Betsy, Dean and Chris came for a visit. It was great to relax and catch up. We played board games and barbecued and even took a trip out to the farm for some of that fresh country air you've heard about.

Dean's definitely got a new president for his fan club. Graham was on him like white on rice :).

Little Bad Wolf

Red Riding Hood, Grandma and the Wolf
Official Fairy Tale of Budweiser Beer

With some significant help from Grandma our costumes were finished without too much stress. I think Jim made a lovely mature lady, even if his beard did point out a need for hormone therapy. It took a while for Graham to agree to leaving his costume on. The promise of candy, and peer pressure helped.

We had a great time at the Harter's Halloween Bash -- the devil eggs and hot dog mummies were a hit, the jello brain made it's annual appearance and watching the kids play the donut game was alot of fun:

Bride Nicole and Joker Kouadio put up a fierce fight, but in the end Emily was declared the winner after she finished eating her last bit of donut off the floor. Here she shows off her prize- more donuts! (posing here with BFF Aliyah)

The Best Costume Award definitely went to the Hostess for her "Bad" MJ. Just lovely.

We trick or treated at 3 houses... I have a feeling that won't be enough next year! And despite the drizzle, we had a great time watching the parade make its way down Main Street.

As usual the marching band was a big hit, but the highlight was when Graham greeted his old pal, Big Bird from the sidelines:
