While visiting the farm to celebrate Mother's Day, I went for a ATV ride up behind the barns. I noticed a little bird thrashing around 2-3 feet away from me. I thought it might be hurt, so I stopped to take a look. Apparently it was a ploy to distract me from a ground nest lying right beside me!
Melissa's mom did some research, and it turns out it's a killdeer. I respectfully followed her lead away from the nest.
Speaking of deer, I found these 3 dozing in the grass just over the crest of the hill. They posed momentarily, allowing me just one photo before they high-tailed it (literally) into the woods. It is really amazing to see spring blooming all over the farm.
